Umuigbo
USA is essentially a child-based initiative. It
is a non-porfit cultural and educational organization wit
headquarters in Ontario, USA. This is an organization which
is deeply rooted in Igbo life, values, culture and traditions.
Its basic aim is to help African-American children of Igbo
(Nigerian) descent in the USA. Founded in the year 2000 by
the Nigerian couple Vivian and Emeka Okoro, Umuigbo
USA was
granted a non-profit status by the state of California in
2003. the current director of this organization is Emeka
Okoro.

The
fundamental mission of Umuigbo USA is
to provide cultural enrichment opportunities for Igbo-American
children, their families and friends. This is achieved
through the inculcating of Igbo cultural values through
language, education folktales, traditional dances and
songs.

USA has as its basic philosophy "leave no Igbo child
behind." This basic philosophy is adopted bearing in mind
that no person is an island. In view of this, it takes a village
to raise a child. In order to leave no Igbo child behind, we
are committed to working i cllaboration with children, their
families, volunteers and other professionals in a team effor
to create a strong Igbo identity among the children of Igbo
descent. |
