Umuigbo USA is a non-profit cultural organization for African-American children of Igbo (Nigerian) descent. Umuigbo USA seeks the cultural enrichment of these children by passing on core life sustaining values and traditions. Our program is open to anyone interested in learning the cultural ethics that make Igbos a distinct people.

culture
Igbos have a fascinating culture rich in traditions, arts, beliefs, outlooks, proverbs, and the list goes on. We are a unique people culturally evolving, but in some ways remaining the same. Our children must know this culture to be secure in their identities.

language
Teaching the children the Igbo language solidifies their tie to their home and enriches their experience when relating to family and friends in their mother tongue. A mix of conversational and grammar based strategies are used to teach the language.

dance
Our cultural dance is part of who we are as a celebrating people. In our culture, dance is used to animate the community. To dance is to be alive, and to be in touch with the rhythm of the universe.

parents / family
It takes a village to raise a child. We encourage parent participation to enrich and support the efforts of this organization. This community service is one of the best an Igbo parent can join, as it will directly affect the development of their children and their peers.
